This cozy city walk takes you through Vaxholm's central and oldest neighborhood. Experience the picturesque little alleys and hear about funny anecdotes from the archipelago and important events in Vaxholm's history. The guide tells you about the Vikings who lived around Vaxholm 1000 years ago and about the first families who settled on Vaxön in the Middle Ages. Furthermore, you will hear about the big change when the king Gustav Vasa decided that a defense facility should be built on the small island of Vaxholmen in the middle of the 1500s. The military, the fishing and the summer guests are three factors that have characterized and shaped the small town - see what traces remain today!
